What is CBD?
What is CBD?
CBD is short for CannaBiDiol, and is a compound derived from the Hemp plant. It is a different, but equally useful compound from THC, the compound which contains Phytochemical, the one that produces a euphoric high.
While CBD is non-psychoactive (non-psychotropic), its relationship to the human endocannabinoid system makes it a fantastic medicinal treatment. CBD does change cognition though. It affects mood, which is why people take it to reduce anxiety and to increase feelings of alertness.
The CBD plant may look like Marijuana, but Hemp is a distant cousin and is a non-psychoactive member of the cannabis family.
CBD has been known to assist in the relief of pain, inflammation, anxiety, and seizures without causing associated inertia or depression. Many people who have been diagnosed with illnesses such as arthritis, PTSD, depression, epilepsy, and chronic pain have reported that they take CBD as a side treatment and to provide temporary relief from conditions.
CBD has been known to encourage the body to use its own cannabinoids. The component in CBD extract attaches to receptors in the brain and immune system, to produce these beneficial effects.
CBD offers the effects of a natural pain killer, especially for chronic pain conditions. It also has many additional benefits within the cardiovascular system, having effects on vasodilation, blood pressure, and the interaction of the Central Nervous System and heart rate.
CBD acts best when consumed with high Fatty Acid foods, for example, salmon, nuts and seeds, and plant oils.
CBD assists with weight loss by helping the body convert white fat into weight-reducing brown fat, and by promoting insulin production, and sugar metabolism
Is CBD Safe?
Yes! A Study of human subject’s published in the scientific journal Current Drug Safety last year, and other studies similarly concluded that the compound was safe, non-toxic, and well tolerated. The addition of permissible amounts of THC to CBD creating a full spectrum product, has been researched extensively, and science shows us that combining THC with much larger amounts of CBD, as produced by the hemp plant, aids the body in maintaining its endocannabinoid system’s health.
Does CBD Work?
In short, YES!! CBD works directly with the human body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS. CBD intercepts both the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the ESC, which are primarily responsible for transmitting messages to the brain. The ECS regulates a broad spectrum of biological and physiological processes including pain management, inflammation, sleep, mood, digestion and more.
Consuming Edible CBD for someone suffering from Crohn’s, eating or digestive disorders (IBS) may find relief from their symptoms. CBD is not only a great source of nausea-reducing medications but is also a source of essential nutrients and calories.
How to Take CBD
Inhalation: Generally immediate onset, and lasts from 2-4 hours
Smoking – this method allows for the intake of a full profile of terpenes, flavonoids and numerous other compounds. Inhaling CBD has up to 5 times higher bioavailability than other methods of administration. The effects of utilizing this route of administration are typically felt within 2-3 mins and can last 2-3 hours. Smoking CBD is often effective for reducing or subsiding acute symptoms that need to be addressed quickly such as painful muscle spasms, nausea, and vomiting.
Vaping – This is the process of heating CBD flower, oil, or concentrate to or near its boiling point. Similar to what you see coming out of a kettle when it’s boiling. Vaporizers control the heat at which the cannabidiol (CBD) is administered. CBD enters your lungs and diffuses directly into your bloodstream rather than passing through your stomach and liver. Vaping is a very efficient delivery method of CBD.
The benefits of vaping CBD, is that the effects take EFFECT within 2-4 mins. What do people typically need relief from within 2-4 mins? Pain and Anxiety! Liv CBD has added special Terpenes to help with that pain and anxiety, giving our juice a punch so you can get the help you need ASAP.
There is a lot of concern for people who vape, and their concern is valid. BUT, the majority of the cases with lung damage, are from the CHEMICALS! The chemicals from the flavoring mostly, natural flavors are hard to pair with CBD because the natural flavor just rolls over the taste buds changing the desired effect, which is why companies use the chemical flavoring.
Liv CBD’s flavor is NATURAL, tastes like a Flower bud, and is smooth and light. And with the added terpenes there is a slight lemon after taste.
Topicals: Generally, topicals take 15-20 minutes to take effect, and last from 2-4 hours.
Topicals are cannabis-infused lotions, balms, and oils that are absorbed directly through the skin. Best for localized relief of pain, soreness, or inflammation. They are higher in bioavailability than orally ingested compounds because they’re able to skip liver metabolization. Topicals have been shown to reduce inflammation and pain in the area to which it is applied. This technique helps with arthritis and with athletes suffering from post-exercise soreness. It may also help with the treatment of skin conditions like psoriasis.
Oils: CBD oil is made from High-CBD, low-THC industrial hemp. The CBD is extracted using Carbon Dioxide, under extremely high pressure, to extract the oil and, as of now, is the cleanest and purest method for obtaining CBD oil.
Tincture – Tinctures generally take 15-60 minutes to become effective, and last from 4-6 hours. Sublingual – Applied under the tongue because this vessel-rich area allows for better absorption, Bioavailability is anywhere from 20%-30%.
Edibles: Generally, edibles take 30-120 minutes to take effect, and last from 6-8 hours. While known to have the longest lasting effects (up to 8 hours), they can take up to 2 hours to become activated in the body. Edibles come in pre-dosed servings, making it simple to calculate how much CBD you’ve consumed and how much is needed to ingest to achieve the desired outcome. For individuals with eating and digestive difficulties, such as gastrointestinal disorders, edibles testing high in CBD are not only a great source of nausea-reducing medicine but are also a source of essential nutrients and calories. People with autoimmune disorders such as Crohn’s disease, find this method of medicating extremely beneficial because Crohn’s occurs in the GI tract.
CBD for Ailments
Inflammation of sebaceous glands in the body causes acne. CBD extract’s anti-inflammatory properties reduce the lipid (a fatty acid) production in the body. Primarily, acne occurs when the sebaceous glands (small glands in the skin which lubricate skin and hair) are overactive. Excess sebum can be caused by an imbalance in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and various hormones. CBD targets the TRPV4 ion receptors. When activated, the ion receptors open to allow calcium into the cells, this inhibits anandamide’s ability to synthesize lipids. In addition, CBD has been shown to relieve inflammation in sebocytes, a much-desired aspect of acne treatment.
Anxiety and Stress Disorders:
CBD extract reduces stress by moderating the heart rate and blood pressure. CBD can “reverse” the electrical signals that cause overstimulation and repetitive behaviors that can result from anxiety.
CBD with cannabis has been shown to assist in slowing the growth of the cell cycles, halting growth cycle, decreasing blood flow, boost immune system and Apoptosis (cancer cell death). Reasons to consider cannabinoid therapy within cancer; Cancer pain and chemo-induced neuropathy, Chemo-induced nausea, and anti-proliferative agent (chemotherapy).
CBD extract may help prevent diabetes by improving the body’s metabolism and insulin absorption, and by combating inflammation. CBD improves circulation through vasodilation and often helps to relieve muscle cramping and gastrointestinal disorders by acting as an anti-spasmodic agent.
Epilepsy and other Neurological Disorders:
CBD may help with other neurodegeneration, neural injury, and psychiatric diseases. Other neurological disorders including schizophrenia may benefit from CBD extract because of its neuroprotective properties. It may stabilize damaged NMDA receptors (very important receptor for controlling synaptic plasticity and memory function) in the brain.
Endocannabinoid system abundantly expressed in the GI tract. Therefore, with regular CBD treatment you may experience, intestinal motility, gastric acid secretion, alteration in the GI mucosal epithelial barrier, alternation in immune function, and appetite stimulant/suppressive effects.
One of the side effects of CBD extract is a feeling of weakness and tiredness. CBD used a few hours before sleep, facilitates people’s ability to combat insomnia.
Migraines and other Headaches:
Cannabinoids also demonstrate dopamine-blocking and anti-inflammatory effects. Decreased levels of endocannabinoids are found in chronic migraine patients. Endocannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids were found to have inhibited receptors that control vomiting and pain, working to block these symptoms.
MS is an autoimmune disease which attacks the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. People suffering from MS experience intense amounts of pain and the inflammation of neural tissue. Cannabinoids has been shown to be effective at reducing pain, muscle stiffness, and spasms in MS patients. In one study, multiple sclerosis patients saw significant improvements in muscle spasticity and reduced sleep disturbances after four weeks of cannabinoid treatment. Cannabinoids have shown to modulate the inflammatory reaction and assist in preventing neurodegeneration. Another study found that cannabinoids administered to animals with a model of MS reduced neurological disability improved their motor coordination, and limited the progression of the disease.
CBD extract, when inhaled by smokers for a period, decreased their urge to smoke tobacco. In addition, people suffering from substance abuse often experience anxiety, pain, and insomnia, thus inhaling heated CBD oil can help curb withdrawal symptoms. The brain craves for this action to take place in order to bring about dopamine-induced stress-relief. This physical memory of the dopamine-induced stress-relief can becomes so intense now that it becomes almost impossible to overlook and may create severe health complications in its wake. CBD is thought to make this “memory trace” more flexible when a memory is recalled.
The calming effects of CBD extract work to relieve the anxiety caused by PTSD. The antipsychotic effects of CBD help calm down the nerves and reduce the feeling of anxiety and fear.
Inflammation causes dilation of the arteries permitting more blood to flow to the affected area in order to fight the damage with white blood cells and hormones. In moderation this promotes healing but in excess this can have a detrimental effect, attacking healthy tissues and cells. CBD might play a role in blocking the body’s absorption of harmful intestinal bacteria that impact Crohn’s disease and IBS.
This condition causes painful sensations by modifying the way the brain processes pain and spreads through the musculoskeletal pain receptors. Infections and/or physical or emotional trauma can also trigger this disease. Treating Fibromyalgia with CBD extract can help reduce inflammation, help with the chronic pain, and improve sleep.
